I've added 2 new features.
1) In the members' area, there is now a primitive leader board.
I'm tired now, so will make it look a bit prettier later this week.
Meanwhile, hopefully it will inspire some (friendly?) competition.
2) As a prelude to enabling the long awaited user-submitted quizes, I have added the ability for the index page to display more than one quiz per day.
I will probably continue adding one a day most days, but the flexibility is a prerequisite of letting you guys loose on the site.

Sorted out a couple of bugs.
There were no labels on the login fields (username / password), these have been added.
If you logged in with the form presented to you immediately after creating an account, you would be presented with an error screen.
This has been fixed.
Added security to ensure usernames contain only alphanumeric characters (A-Z, a-z, 0-9) and underscore (_).

In the interests of making the site more fun for you and more self-managing, I have been working hard on a major upgrade: user accounts.
Usr accounts are now active!
Now, when you correctly solve a quiz, you can log in (if you haven't already done so on the main page) and score points.
Harder quizes and more obscure films will score higher, and you can only score on today's quiz (since there's the "reveal" button in the archive").
Also, to avoid unfair advantages, you can't score on a quiz you have submitted.
Also, I have done quite a lot of work on the logic behind the answer page.
It will now give much more useful feedback on near-misses and incomplete title guesses.
Further enhancements based on the sounds of the words (to halp you out even if yu spell things ronglee) are planned.
Other plans include: a leader-board or 2 showing the best film buff in the last week / overall, etc; users to have the ability to submit quizes of their own, and therefore for more than one quiz to be displayable on the main page; general quality-of-life enhancements.
I hope you continue to enjoy this site for many years to come and share it with your friends.
Superior Scripting

I have just received a knowledge upgrade regarding javascript, and have applied this to the film-guessing form.
This just means that the way the result popups are created is a little different and hopefully more standards compliant.
If you notice any weird behaviour, could you let me know on webmaster@guessthefilm.net so I can fix it.
Also, all this jigger-pokery should mean that you can use the site without javascript enabled, it just won't be as pretty.
Archival Update

I have been becoming steadily less and less pleased with the presentation of the archives as they have got fuller and fuller.
It finally got too much for me, and I've spent this evening joyously coding away and exploring the wonders of the GDlib PHP functions.
It's been great.
What this means for you young rapscallions is that the archive area is (hopefully) now a lot lot easier to navigate.
Instead of just one huuuuge list of all previous quizes, they are now grouped by month, and each month shows just a preview of all its quizes until you click on one to get the full version.
I hope you like it, and as always, feedback is mostly most welcome.
New news mechanism

Have re-jigged the way the news page is done so as to have it powered by the almighty database.
It's not really that it'll improve your lives much, but it's a token of my renewed efforts to improve this 'ere website.

been a bit slack with updates really.

In my defense, I have been moving in to a new place, and we've had some connection troubles here at work (due to office flooding, changed passwords, etc), but still not a real excuse.

Archive upgrade

Have spent a little time implimenting a better way of calling up the info for each quiz.
What this means for you folks is that even old quizes in the archive have hints when you click the picture, and there will more consistently be hints on the daily quiz.
I've also uploaded quizes for the next week and a half as I'm away at Download festival.
Ironically this means that you'll actually get better service in terms of more prompt updates than when I am here as each new quiz will display from midnight.

I just thought I'd give you an overview of planned improvements: User accounts; rankings tables; user-submitted quizes; improved layout on archive section (it's beginning to be something of a mammoth single page); improved layout to allow neat presentation of multiple quizes per day on the main page.
So now you know.
It may be a while before I get time to do all that, as I'm just working on this in my spare time, but my spare time is largely taken up with servicing my bike prior to MOT at the moment.
Meanwhile, keep those suggestions coming, it's all good.
Rodent control

A much requested improvement has been made.
It's now possible to simply hit "enter" when typing in your guess rather than having to use that pesky mouse and click on the "Try it" button.
Now you can hammer in those wrong guesses with much greater efficiency.

Thanks for all the suggestions to improve the site, and drawings for quizzes.
Keep 'em coming...
that way I don't have to think about drawing new ones and can use my energy to add more features to the site.
Meanwhile, you may have noticed that there wasn't any update over the weekend.
That's because I was at my lady's house and hadn't uploaded quizzes in advance...
I'll do better next week.
Also, I hope to be doubling up on today's content, so look out for a second quiz coming up around 2:00pm (GMT)

Fixed a small glitch with the archive page showing the current film.
Will add today's film at around lunch time to make up for the late upload of yesterday's, and give you folks some time to ponder.

Major overhaul of various internal things.
The site is now database driven.
This will hopefully pave the way for many a groovy feature in the future (next on the list is listing the first 5 people to guess each film).
